WHOA. :D

From my dad.

There’s a wiki article that talks about the making of the original video, which I read with great interest. Much of the song was written by MJ… shouldn’t surprise anyone. Besides his unparalleled talent for showmanship, the other thing that strikes me about MJ is his rather childlike perspective on changing the world, which the lyrics in this song are… no different. ::lol::

I’m appalled that people could criticize the song for being too simplistic, though. Sure, it’s not artistically challenging, but hell, that’s not what it’s FOR. Come off your high horse and just revel in the beauty of the human spirit.

The chorus is especially powerful. All those beautiful voices singing in harmony. ::happy sigh::

::lololol:: I was doing some research on Mulan, don’t ask why. But… I found out that Jackie Chan voiced Shang for the Mandarin version of the Disney film.

Which meant… he sang Shang’s pieces too. So I had to YouTube it. XD

(p.s. dunno why the beginning is English… I think they used an English version video and just put the recording of the Mandarin lyrics to it.)

(p.p.s. apparently Mulan is credited to giving Christina Aguilera her start, because she sang the pop version of Reflection. :x )

Was listening to Pandora, where I have a Glee channel (shhhhh!) … and this piece randomly popped on. I was working, so didn’t know who was singing it, but I naturally started bopping to the beat and thought, gosh, that really sounds like Lea Michele. But Glee never did a Christmas episode…..

Oh hey. >_>;

Almost There

Probably my favorite number from Princess and the Frog. (it’s not the whole thing of course, too bad, but good quality and “official”)

There’s a nice interview with Anika Noni Rose from the same user about her thoughts on the film and the characters. She said something lovely and poignant about Tiana’s song (Almost There)… how it’s not about Tiana’s yearning, but more about how close her she is to her goals.

From a purely feminist perspective (which I rarely indulge in)… it’s nice to note how far we’ve come from “Someday My Prince Will Come”.

I’d like it if I were able to wake up every day and sing this to myself, since I am “almost there” on my thesis. Or I would be if I could just buckle down and code. >_>

I'd like to make myself beliiiiiiieve...

This song. Will not. Get out. Of my head.

And to think I’d have never known what it was if it weren’t for that one night where we went karaoke-ing in that really ghetto karaoke … bar. Place. Thing. >_>

… Also, I really love that wind-up crab in the video. It’s so cute. XD

(reposted because I thought the embed would work, but it didn’t. ::lol::)

[edit, Jan 12th] wtf, Owl City made their own video private? >_> oh well. Here’s a link to the song with a still frame: Owl City - Fireflies XP

I saw Sherlock Holmes with the girls last Tuesday (29th). It was not terribly deep or thought-provoking, but had a healthy mix of humor and action scenes. It was, put simply, a very fun and entertaining romp… much like the first Pirates of the Carribean was. I felt that it was a charmingly quirky and completely pretenseless film. Definitely going on the list of must-see with the ATDP kids at our next gathering.

I’m quite in love with the main theme as well, which I’ve included for your listening pleasure. XP So much so that after I came home, I quickly … ah, acquired the soundtrack and have listened to it on and off. (interspersed with Glee music. yeah, i know.) I thought the instrumentation was very characteristic of the actors and their respective roles… or maybe I’m just really fond of that practically steampunk-y twang. :x

And, of course, they left room for a sequel. I hope any upcoming flicks keep their lightheartedness and don’t get bogged down like Pirates did. >_>
