I maintain that Processing is an amazing environment for teaching learning how to program.

For the class I’m TAing, we had “study hall” today where one of the students actually bothered to come in and told us about this idea he had for a Processing sketch, and I went ahead and tried to build it.

It’s not totally accurate to what he proposed, but the next step from here would be collision detection, which Processing is terrible for. In the meantime, I still think what I made was pretty nice with less than three hours worth of time… you certainly can’t produce anything visual in anything of similar sophistication in plain Java in that amount of time, or many other environments even.

(by the way 2: did you know a group of fireflies is called a “sprinkle”? O.o not sure if that’s actually true, but that was the only term I could find with a quick Googling…)
