So this is what Sedrin was doing instead of levelling (or DMing D:< ) this weekend…

Things You Need: a 48 hour film project. He joined up with two other well known WoW machinimists and did the music… and since their genre ended up being “musical”, that worked out pretty well. :P

I highly recommend it… it’s campy, but funny, and requires zero WoW knowledge whatsoever. (TWOOOooo dollaaaaaars!!) Plus it’s full of anti-Palin sentiment! I kid you not. XD So, WoW fan or not… check it out. :x

::cough:: Of course, this is nothing, since we’ve at least two people reach level 80 on our server already. Sheesh.

I did, also, try a Death Knight… did the entire starting zone thing. (had to delete my low level mage, not only to make room but to use her name, cause Evenrue is totally DK material!)

Actually, I was neatly impressed. I unfortunately caught a couple glimpses of stuff happening before I got to do it myself, so some of the surprise was ruined… but on the whole, the entire induction of the Death Knight faction was really rather brilliant. The world phasing was very surprisingly subtle, though I did note with some amusement other people who expressed their shock in general chat. “Where are all the regular horses??” … And after I explained the world phasing concept, they were just totally incredulous.

I enjoyed encountering Arthas on a more personal level, even if he is totally the De Facto Unmitigated Bastard. Talking to Baron Rivendare, also, was kind of a kick… seeing him get assigned at least a mild personality when normally he’s sort of a faceless killer was definitely entertaining. After experiencing the whole DK thing, I was compelled to wowwiki all the related characters and get a firmer grounding on all the lore. Much fun.

Blizz getting more powerful storytelling tools… I would totally dig a job doing event scripting and/or quest design. >_<

(plus the ghouls were calling me “mama!” :X :X )

My car displays the number of the incoming call and I didn’t recognize it, but picked it up anyway cause it had a 510 area code. I was still kind of groggy from waking up, so it took me a moment to recognize my brother’s voice… and then I was kind of alarmed cause my brother never calls me. ::lol::

But as it turns out, my new nephew was born at 9:00 AM this morning. Smooth birth, no complications… kid’s healthy as far as I know. Thought it was an auspicious day to be born… on the day of the WoW expansion release. ::roflol::

Wonder if they decided to give him an English name in addition to his Chinese one. >_>

So this morning I get up and find my partner has IMed me about a game design decision… it read something like this.

her: just wanted to mention it while I thought of it. do we want to limit wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend to only apply when the NPC and escort are different genders? I don’t care either way

Naturally, I read that and was totally thunderstruck. And here was my instant response.

me: ::LOL:: You know what. Normally I would actually say no… let’s not confuse players with homosexual partners. But because I am so pissed off over prop 8, I think we should have them!
her: lol. does it help if it is easier to allow it?
me: Yeah, but now I get to say it was a deliberate choice regardless. Mwaha.

So there we were, with homosexual characters in our game. ::LOL:: Naturally we take it to playtest and, as predicted, the first playtester who ran into a (clearly) female sprite who was looking for their wife became extremely puzzled. “Wait, is this a guy?? … no… I guess… they must be lesbian??”

Me and Brandi are totally cracking up in the usability room and Tracy is just staring with this “what is wrong with you” look on her face. We finally manage to explain it to her and she tries really hard not to laugh while telling us that it probably is way too confusing to have in the final version.

Though on the other hand, another playtester came out to find us after his session was over and was like, “dude! I was so excited when I thought your game was a reaction to the whole prop 8 mess and was really disappointed when I found out it wasn’t.” XD

Ah well. It was entertaining, regardless.

Alex found this marvelous series of articles, called “Secrets of the 2008 Campaign”, by Newsweek. It’s seven chapters total and a really wonderful read if you’re at all curious about the various horrors of the campaign trail, for all three of the major players (Obama, McCain, Hillary). There’s a bit of an Obama-bias as Quad noted, but it’s just as much fact as it is bias — the other two campaigns just weren’t run well, the campaign leaders lost sight of playing their candidate’s strengths and couldn’t agree on strategy, etc.

Personally, though, I enjoyed the sneak peeks at Obama’s human moments. Like this one from chapter 6 about debate prep and rehearsal.

Nothing seemed to rattle Obama. He had a way of retreating into his own little world. During one of the debate preps, the lights blew, flickering on and off like a strobe light from the 1970s disco craze. Obama stood behind the podium, quietly singing the song “Disco Inferno,” last popular in the heyday of “Saturday Night Fever.”

How can you not love him? XD (buuuurn, baby burn!) Whole series highly recommended.

On a tangential note, Lloyd had this to say in regards to a TIC alum that … I never took classes

lloydinmaui: Breaking news, TIC/AIC/Obama related! :-) Fed just told me that his mentor Federico Pena is one of the 3 main advisers on Obama’s transition team.
