Fried green graphics cards

Why me? Graphics cards and me just don’t get along.

Looks like my Vostro’s graphics card has been fried. The display is squished and duplicated horizontally… so I see the exact same display shown one on top of the other. On top of this, when I try to boot in anything other than Safe Mode, I get this error…

*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
NMI: Parity Check/Memory Parity Error
*** The system has halted ***

And when I went to bother Dell, I guess the guy took that error and started assuming it was a RAM error, even though … my graphics are totally farked up looking… sigh.

What’s confusing is that when I go into safe mode and uninstall the current graphics drivers… it asks to restart and I go yes and when it does… it actually runs the first couple loading screens normally before going black and doing nothing.

At least the damn thing is still under warranty. -_-

[edit] Well wait. Now I’ve gotten it to use a really crappy driver and it’s working. So maybe it is just a driver issue…

[edit 2] omfg, I fixed it, but I don’t know how. ;_;

[edit 3] annnnnd now it’s broken again. $#&$(*%@$#
