I can’t believe I’d ever say that. But it’s incredibly true. I’ve discovered, more and more after arriving at this program, that I’m really not very immersed in gaming culture as I pretend to be. People talk about games that I’ve never even heard of and have no idea what system they’re for… and though I eventually get word about the most interesting games (Bioshock, Portal, etc.) … I often don’t have access to these games to try them for myself, instead of just going by hearsay.

Consoles are expensiveish though… for the amount that they cost (plus the games!!) versus how much time I actually have on my hands to try everything, it’s really not an intelligent purchase right now. One thing I might consider is just purchasing games and then sneaking into the game lab to use their consoles, since they have alllll the latest consoles, but only games from what people have donated…

At any rate, one thing I really must do is throw out my … er, prejudices against certain game types. And so, this is my belated New Years Resolution: to play a greater variety of games. From now on, if I said I didn’t like a certain type of game, well now it’s been revoked and I will at least try whatever is being shoved at me, for half an hour.

(yes, this means I will try mario 64. yes, this means I will try rRootage.) I think I may draw the line at horror games (Silent Hill?), since I still won’t even watch movies of that type.

To boot, I will endeavor to try one new game every month. Where “new” means simply that I have never tried it before. GameTap ought to help me out a LOT here… there’s soooo many games there, of all shapes and sizes, so once I get an idea of what the “seminal” titles are, I can probably sweep through there and try them.

And this means that if you have a game recommendation, you should whack me with it! Because now I’ll always be looking for new stuff to try. Though I’ll probably have trouble getting it if it’s on PS3 or Wii or 360 or DS. -___-; In fact… here. Made a list on my Jottit that you can edit and add your suggestions to directly.

I’m also downloading Steam as we speak… yay for new distribution methods.

On another note… I realized I never did a review of my classes last semester. I really should. I’m excited about two of my classes this semester too… and I think I’ll become more excited about the third once we get past the first couple of projects. >_>;
