Rather Be Singin'

My interview with Jason Dzsomething went well, actually, but I’m not sure I should take the job. He gave me this “sales pitch” at the beginning and it sounded pretty nice, but maybe too intensive to take on with the other things I’ve already signed up for. I could probably sleep my way through most of the work, but they have some harder things and I so hate half-assing work, which might end up happening when I have so many other things on my plate already.

After that, went to turn in my forms for the IMD jobs… lab monitor and webmaster position both. Except… the lady there said my passport was no good (even though the paper said expired passports okay), but apparently an expired passport from when I was four years old does not work. -_-

Long story short, I bounced between the IMD business office and the Social Security office not only once, but twice, because I needed proof of blahdy-blahdy-blah. /sigh bureaucracy. Oh well, at least it’s all taken care of.

Walking between campus and the Social Security office and my apartment so many times has made me reconsider my dad’s insistence that I get a bike… those cycles are starting to look pretty damn good now. -_- Although I still hate the inconvenience of locking one up. I’m actually feeling partial to getting rollerblades instead, even though that’s more expensive (I think? >_>; ) and then you have the inconvenience of changing shoes when you get to your destination (unless your destination is okay with you wearing rollerblades… hmmm) … but at least you don’t risk them being stolen?

Another thing I did today… the IMD building is right near the music building and I couldn’t help a peek inside. I had known that Magen Solomon was directing one of the choirs and thought I might see if I could find where the choral rehearsal room was… or maybe even her office. I saw a flyer for auditions and a note that said “see us in room 3## to find out which chorus is right for you”.

I trekked up to the third floor and looked around the offices there, and sure enough, I found Magen’s office. The door was open and she was just coming out, when she saw me approaching and stopped. She said “hi” and I returned the greeting and she just stared at me for a long moment. I could tell she was trying oh so very hard to remember who the hell I was.

“No rush, I can wait!” I encouraged. Hahaha. She looked so agonized.

“Oh god… I know… but I don’t think I’ll be able to do it.”

I caved and gave my name… and added that I was in Chorissima for the interim year that she was there, though my name seemed to be enough to jog her memory. She hugged me and asked if I was going to school at USC.

“I’m starting grad school… for the interactive media department.” She congratulated me, but was simultaneously depressed. “Nooo, you’re supposed to only be in high school. It’s been so long! (and I’m getting so old…)” ::lolol::

She asked if I was going to sing, saying she would love to have me and gave me the auditions flyer, though I admitted to her that I wasn’t sure yet. I did ask her for some details… how intensive it was… they appear to not memorize music. Though they do do a lot more concerts than chamber singers did at UCSD. They have rehearsals twice a week for an hour and a half… not too bad. I dunno, though… that, plus lab monitoring, plus webmastering, plus MY class hours and hours spent doing my projects.

I’d like to sing, though. But I’m so out of practice. -_- My throat starts to hurt after just a few songs in KR (and yes, I would know)… I could really use a vocal coach to whip my ass (er… my vocal chords?) into shape. ::sighs::

Actually, I just looked up the specific schedule for each of the choirs… concert choir, which is what Magen directs, has one rehearsal that conflicts with my schedule. -_- On top of that, the two audition days are today (which is over) and tomorrow… and I have the department orientation all tomorrow. ::grumble:: Guess it’s not in the cards. Maybe next semester/year. :(

Aggghh, but I want to get my voice back into shape! Maybe Magen can recommend something for me. >_<;

Or Leslie! Who is another person from SFGC that I got back in touch with, just today actually… we traded a number of e-mails some hours ago. It turns out that SHE is attending med school at UCLA. I mean, seriously. WTF? What are the freaking odds? First Magen, then Sophia… now her, too?

I told her I was at USC and she was like… “Oh my goodness. Ahem. Go bruins.” XD XD I ALSO told her about Magen at USC, which shocked her even more. And Sophia, whom she is also acquainted with. So, so crazy. We’ll all have to get together. It’ll be psychotic. :x

Other notable things that happened today… a dude finally came to fix our satellite. Turns out the wall thing we were plugging into was the cable… not the satellite. O.o Of course, we didn’t have the right cord for the satellite anyway, so he gave us one of those too, and now it works. Woot. Now I get to watch Daily Show and Colbert Report every night. XD

A package arrived for me at the leasing office, but I didn’t have time to go get it before they closed… so it’ll have to wait until tomorrow. What is it? Hint: it’s from Blizzard. :X

Oh, and… apparently IMD has given all of the int.media grads their own MT logs. I suppose it’s for talking about experiences within and around IMD… so class projects or exhibits you visit… anything that might interest people. I suppose I’ll use it (I certainly don’t want to redirect people here) … though you can bet your bottom dollar that I’ll be redesigning the sucker… probably nothing toooo fancy, though…

Good lord. That’s enough for today. -_-
