Not a visionary

musings, work

Work with Processing is coming, but it’s almost unbearably slow. If you’re not into reading the technobabble, just know that Processing is basically a bunch of code that I can use to do visual stuff… theoretically, it’s a lot of work that’s done already and I just have to write stuff to make the basic tools do what I want to do.

Unfortunately, the tools I’ve been given are still a little primitive… especially since I’m working with mainly text (no text areas / text wrapping). And I haven’t really found any ready-made animation tools, which is what I was REALLY hoping for… so I’d have to write all those from scratch. All in all, I have to come up with a LOT of solutions in very little time. Not sure how much I’ll really be able to do. ::sigh::

At some point, I must have instinctively understood that I’m actually not a very visual person, since I always seem to avoid work that requires artistic vision. I’ve always ventured into that realm, of course, but in the end I don’t have the patience required to develop any real skill for it. Whenever I’m faced with a visual project, I always know what I want to see in my head, but my ability to transfer that to reality is little to nonexistent. Even if I come up with something, it doesn’t match what was in my head, so I get annoyed. >_>;

Drawing of any kind is this way for me… so was 3D rendering. Even my web design suffers from this… so all the pages I ever make are very simple and the focus is usually some solid photograph or screenshot that I may have taken, but was not directly responsible for the content itself. (see, I’m giving away all my secrets. -_- )

All in all, really kind of frustrating. I do feel like I have a good aesthetic “eye” so to speak… I think I know what looks good and can criticize other people’s work to a degree, when I don’t feel something sitting right with me. But I can’t really always pinpoint how to fix things or what is lacking … or whatever.
