Vocal Footnotes

4:29 PM | "Freya's Theme", FF9 OST
work - singing

i. It occurred to me earlier today, in chamber choir, why it was that we didn’t do other kinds of music other than people-who-have-died-already music. In SFGC, we were only ever able to sing music that had previously been cleared with composers or license-holders … and you always had to get permission to both (1) perform the piece in public and (2) record the performances. And it’s probably really inconvenient for Phil to get that kind of permission for music every quarter, so he probably just sticks to public domain stuff.

I mind that less this quarter, though, cause we’re doing the Faure Requiem… which is really a very nice piece. Think I might find it on iTMS and purchase it… and re-rip it and all that jazz…

ii. I’ve started to pin down what exactly is wrong with my singing these days. I noticed that my tiredness occurs on one specific piece we’re doing… slow thing, with lots of long, held out notes… and it’s this piece that I get tired on quickly. Which leads me to believe that it is, indeed, a vocal technique issue… that I’m not singing properly and it’s only obvious on longer notes… whereas if it were a simple stamina issue, I’d be getting tired no matter what I was singing. At least, this is my best guess… I could be totally off base.

Again, I’m struck by this rather fierce desire to take on hardcore vocal coaching lessons when I’ve graduated and have a quarter of time to kill before summer starts… but… so expensive. ;_;

iii. located in Einstein Bros’ bathroom on the wall… I don’t know why, but it’s cute. :P

iv. Nothing to do with singing, but WoW arenas are ridiculously fun. XP
