Booster!
5:55 PM | "Brass de Chocobo", FF11 OST
gaming, technobabble, work
All I did was fill out forms (ew adulthood) and … well, I had to take a drug test. ::LOL:: And then I just watched a bunch of tutorial videos for the game engine that they’ve been using, called Quest3d. Actually, it’s a relatively impressive beast… it’s GUI-based and feels like a hybrid of 3D Studio Max and — of all things — PureData. It will take me some time to learn the organization of this kind of thing, but I don’t think it will be too terrible.
I don’t think I’m supposed to use the computers at work for non-work related activities… I had to sign a form about not visiting personal sites on work computers, for security reasons. But the programming/art people are located in another building and on a separate network, so I don’t believe client files are at risk. Still, better safe than sorry, I suppose. I won’t go looking at websites (or update my weblog or check my e-mail or join pokechat) unless I see everyone else doing so. XP
The only other thing to note was that Micah, the… well, he’s not the department head, but he’s certainly my superior, showed me a couple things that the group has already done and one of them was an old map for Unreal 2003. So he broke out the game, loaded up the map, and let me explore. He had me enter allweapons and allammo codes so I could use the redeemer to explore.
And at one point, there were AIs shooting at me. And Micah was like, you’re going to die soon. So I internally huffed and started drawing on my Unreal knowledge, which has been buried deep, but not forgotten! Toggle scrollwheel… no, redeemer’s bad for indoors… no, ion cannon won’t reach indoors… no, shield gun is useless… aha! Rocket launcher! ::kaBOOM:: And because of one of the codes had given me full adrenaline, I was able to use the booster key combo to give me my health back. Micah didn’t realize I had used it until after he finished explaining something about the scene and he was like, oohhh… someone’s an Unreal player.
Used to be, yep. ^_^
I went to lunch with my new coworkers… turns out three of them were UCSD ICAM majors. ::LOL:: Though two of them hadn’t liked it and graduated more than a couple years ago. There were… ten people in the department total… and two more than I heard about, but weren’t there today. Not all of them are programmers, I think… some are doing art.
Anyway… will be going back tomorrow. My work days should be M/Tu/Th, for pretty much the entire day. So my schedule has gone from very empty to relatively full. :x Should be a good thing, really.
